Arine Vlieger was trained as pediatrician in Utrecht, the Netherlands. After her registration as a pediatrician in 1998, she became a fellow in pediatric immunology in Utrecht. Since June 2001, she is working as a general pediatrician in the St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands, with a special interest in children with gastrointestinal problems. She has been trained in hypnotherapy in the Netherlands and in pediatric hypnotherapy in the United States. She has performed several multicenter trials on hypnotherapy in chronic abdominal pain, primary headaches and functional nausea. As the chair of the Dutch foundation for hypnosis in children she has set up an English and Dutch website for home-based hypnosis treatment of chronic abdominal pain in children (www.hypnosis4abdominalpain.com and www.hypnosebijbuikpijn.nl).
For 15 years now, she has been teaching the use of medical hypnosis in children in the Netherlands and abroad.
