I am a Paediatric Infectious Disease and Immunology consultant and head of the sub-department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Rheumatology . In addition, I am employed as a clinical scientist at the department of Viroscience. This unique combination of professional environments has allowed me to set up and implement translational research studies, and initiate and coordinate interactions between the scientific and clinical departments.  I obtained my PhD at the Erasmus- MC on clinical, virological and immunological aspects of High Active Antiretroviral Therapy in HIV-1 infected children. During this PhD track studies were also performed at the Heinrich Heine Universität in Düsseldorf, Germany. My current research focuses on the impact of emerging and reemerging viruses on children and the pathogenesis and treatment of respiratory viral infections in the young and immunocompromised
