Prof. Dr. Ann De Guchtenaere is a Belgian paediatric nephrologist, with special interest in general aspects of chronic paediatric diseases and community care paediatrics. She completed her medical school and paediatric training at the University of Ghent and was trained in Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital and Hôpital R. Debré in Paris.
During some years of combining clinical work and research, she obtained her PhD degree in May 2011.
At the moment she is an associate professor at the Ghent University and is working in a Medical Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre as well as in the Hospital AZ Damiaan in Ostend.
Prof. Dr. De Guchtenaere is a board member of the Flemish Paediatric Society since 2012 and was president from 2014 till 2019. She is a board member of all four other Belgian Paediatric Societies. In 2017 she became an EAP National Delegate and a member of the Executive Council of the European Academy of Paediatrics in 2018, as Secretary General.
In Belgium she is known as a specialist for thinking ‘out of the box’ and has given multiple lectures on the future of paediatrics, on communicable diseases especially obesity, urinary incontinence and chronic pain in children.
She is a proud and optimistic mother of three, interested in education, psychology and philosophy as well as exploring different cultures.
